The full HD home theatre was designed and constructed as the ultimate indulgence of the client’s passion for movies. The design of the room needed to be such that the client was able to become completely absorbed in the movie experience. The room was created from an existing garage and features a lot of bespoke construction work including, sound proofing all the internal walls and ceiling, construction of the stepped floor, stage, front, side and rear wall facades not to mention the down stand and decorative wall features. All the design features of this home theatre have multiple purposes; the stage for example houses the B&W ASW750 subwoofer, Screen Research Ultimate XMask projection screen interface controllers and G-Rail curtain interface controllers. The front, side and rear façades not only allow the required clearances to be applied to the AcoustiBlok but contain the B&W Signature8 and DS8 speakers, acoustic back boxes and LED lighting and decorative features. The stepped floor affords a clear field of view for the second row of seats and provides the required clearances for two complete D-Box Odyssee motion simulator platforms to be mounted flush into the floor. Each Elite theatre chair with powered recliner contains a Clark Synthesis tactile transducer. The down stand continues the curved theme that is evident in the decorative wall features, stage and custom graphics used in the Crestron control interface, it also houses the Future Automation projector lift and JVC HD2K a full 1920 x 1080 HD projector as well as the ceiling LED lighting.
Special care was taken with all the decorative finishes used in the theatre; the choice of colours, materials and textures all played a part in the overall design. The wall coverings are all real suede, the theatre chairs, projection screen curtains and the ceiling down stand coverings, all provide for a non reflective surface.
The audio portion of the 7.1 theatre is powered by three Rotel RMB-1095 amplifiers fed by a Crestron DAP8RC sound processor; video processing is carried out by a Faroudja DVP-1080 which in turn feeds the JVC HD2K projector with any of the centralised sources. These include Sky receivers, Rotel RDV-1060 DVD player, Samsung DVD-VR325 VHS/DVD player, CCTV cameras, Kaleidescape movie servers or the locally installed Xbox 360. Once the theatre was fully operational and furnished it was professionally calibrated. This was to ensure optimum performance.
There are unique features to this home theatre such as the Screen Research Ultimate XMask projection screen that not only hides the front speakers behind its acoustically transparent surface but with motorised vertical and horizontal blanking panels automatically adjusts the viewable area to the correct aspect ratio of a given movie. The DBox Odyssee motion simulation platforms create a truly moving experience by creating real three dimensional movements, an effect much like the simulators found at theme parks.
This complex home theatre is a breeze to use thanks to the large Crestron TPMC-15-CH touch screen mounted on a custom-built stainless steel stand. Full control of all LED lighting, room-to-room intercom and whole house paging as well as preview and selection functions from the many centralised sources. Quick toggle buttons exist to turn on and off the D-Box platforms, tactile transducers and floor and decorative lighting. Advanced control of parameters for the projector, audio and video processors and XMask adjustment are all catered for via an advanced button.
