Residential: Project C

This double awrd-winning project (CEDIA Award - "Best Integrated Home over £100,000" and Crestron Award - "Best International Crestron Home") consisted of the design and installation of a comprehensive integrated home automation system into a new residence that has been built in the east of England. The solution included control of the under floor heating, electronic window openings and window coverings, multi-room audio and video distribution, a wired and wireless data network, full intercom and paging functionality, gate access control, a complex lighting system and security and CCTV systems.

The Home Theatre

photo of the entertainment room and projector screenThe entertaining room incorporates a home theatre which includes a wall mounted 43” 16:9 HD (high definition) plasma screen. A 110” electric projection screen can be lowered to cover the plasma screen and an HD projector lowered from the ceiling in a projector lift to provide the full cinematic experience. Sources for this system include a DVD player, a recordable DVD player, Laser disc player, satellite receivers and a Kaleidescape audio and video server. The audio portion of this theatre is handled by a high quality 7.1 surround sound processor and amplifier with a matching array of speakers and subwoofers. This is all controlled by a wireless Crestron WiFi tablet.

Audio and Video Distribution

Throughout the house, flush mounted ceiling speakers provide the ambient audio in each room, source selection and control is done from either the in-wall keypads or via the touch screens located around the house. Each room that benefits from a display screen is connected to the video distribution system allowing access to TV, DVD, Laser Disk, Kaleidescape and CCTV feeds. The audio and video systems are interconnected to provide seamless integrated operation.

Other Control Systems

Other features that are incorporated into the solution are ceiling fans, water features and motorised windows and window coverings.

Each of the 20 plus under floor heating zones have remote air and floor temperature sensors that are connected to the central thermostats. These are all part of the home automation solution and are accessed by the client from touch screens around the property.

This interesting property features a recording studio which is also connected to the audio distribution system in the main house allowing the client to hear the studio session from anywhere in the property.
